It’s Time To Replace Your Walk-In Refrigeration Unit
Refrigeration has places in all types of homes and businesses. It’s essential for daily life whether it’s in your home, a restaurant, a hospital, or a convenience store. And when a refrigerator goes bad, it can be costly. Not only if it needs repair or replacement, but for any goods that are being stored inside that could potentially go bad. The good news is that most of the time a refrigeration unit will have tell-tale signs that can let you know that it may be time to call in a repair tech. Here are some things to look out for with your refrigerator that may mean that something is on the fritz.
One of the most obvious signs of something being wrong with your refrigeration or cooling unit is condensation. Condensation in a cooling unit often means that it is having a difficult time cooling. It can be as simple as a cracked or damaged rubber door seal that is allowing moisture into the unit, or it can be something more serious like the condensation coil going bad. Look for any signs of damage where you spot condensation, and if you continue to notice condensation call in a service technician to take a look.
The purpose of a refrigeration and cooling unit is to keep things cool, however icicles and large chunks of ice inside the unit could also mean something is wrong. If you begin to see ice building up it means that the unit is not defrosting properly, which can lead to part damage. The inside of your refrigeration unit is not the only place susceptible to icicles and ice buildup - the outside unit can also shows ice building up which can mean that the cold and frost from your unit are not being controlled properly and likely needs a fix.
If you are noticing condensation or ice, you should manually check the temperature of the refrigeration unit. To do this you can place your hand on the back of the unit - if it is excessively hot it means that something is overworking and causing it to overheat, indicating that something is definitely wrong and needs to be looked at. If you are able to access where the coils for your refrigerator or cooler are, place your hand on top of that area as well. The coils should be insulated, so if this area feels extra hot you could have issues with your coils and should call in a technician to see if they need replacement.
When you find issues like overheating or too much condensation early it can usually be a pretty inexpensive repair. The longer these issues are prolonged however the more serious the damage can become. Refrigeration units are designed to run efficiently when everything is working - if something is damaged or broken, it causes the other components of the refrigerator to work overtime and puts these additional components at risk of damage as well. If you think something is wrong it’s better to call in a certified technician to check for any signs of damage and help with the repairs.
